Located in the charming seaside town of Deal, the brief was to redevelop an unassuming terrace house on the outskirts of the conservation area, maximising the floor to ceiling heights. Retaining the existing street facade and the roof, the proposed design rethinks the internal living spaces extending out to the rear with a contemporary two storey extension sunken half meter from the entrance level.

Internally, polished concrete, white plasterboard, birch ply and douglas fir are honestly layered to enhance the architecture. The warm and contemporary environment, studied in every detail, is flooded with natural daylight thanks to the large apertures and the frameless skylight at ground floor.

At first level the bathroom has been renovated and the ceilings of the rooms raised to provide a generous floor to ceiling height, unique feature for the housing stock in Deal.
